The book show the past, the present, and the future of America, and both of the picture and the poems are emotions. This anthology of poems is not about war. The poems are the expressions, feelings, and emotions of those affected by war—service men and women, friends, family, and community. The poems and the illustrations are a tribute to all service men and women from all conflicts and branch of services. The poems are for all who served, all who gave their lives, all who waited at home, some who will never know, and all who are remembered. This collection of poems, representing eight wars, begins with the American Revolution in 1775 and concludes with the Iraq War today. Each set of poems is prefaced with a short summary. Each war has five to eight poems. The poems and illustrations are very touching and will bring a tear to your eye. I especially liked the Epilogue. It is a vocabulary lesson. For example “We don’t have war”. “We have conflicts, campaigns, operations, escalations, missions, offensives, and preemptive strikes.” These words would lead to a curriculum connection and conversations with the children. More than fifty beautiful illustrations correspond to each poem. All illustrations are rendered in watercolors which will appeal to young children. The anthology contains poems from celebrated poets of the past, as well as new, undiscovered poets. The introduction to the book explains to children why the poems were collected. The poems are indexed by author, title, and by first lines making it easy for children to locate. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
