rhyming of names, shows how ted and fred are opposites of everything they do. But in the end they are friends and work together

"Fred and Ted—beloved canine stars of P. D. Eastman’s Big Dog . . . Little Dog—are back in an all-new Beginner Book written and illustrated by P. D.’s son, Peter Eastman! In this story Fred and Ted go camping, and as usual, their uniquely different approaches to doing things (such as packing equipment, setting up camp, and fishing techniques) have humorous—and sometimes surprising—results. A charming introduction to opposites that beginner readers will find ruff to put down!
Originally created by Dr. Seuss, Beginner Books encourage children to read all by themselves, with simple words and illustrations that give clues to their meaning." -- GoodReads

In the story, Fred and Ted Go Camping, Fred seems to have the short end of the stick a lot of the time. He decides to bring to much to camping. He has struggle putting up his tent. Ted makes Fred carry the heavy end of the boat with all of the supplies. Fred struggles to catch. Overall it is not Fred's day. ( )

I love Dr. Seuss books. This book comes from the home of The Cat in the Hat. They are similar in reading level and also rhyme. This is an easy read for a beginning reader. The "big idea" that I got from this book is two friends went camping and each had their ups and downs but came together as a team when they were hungry. They used the help from the bird who "sang a song" to help them find food. The song was: "Look up in a tree. Look down at your feet. And you will soon find something to eat," They also gave the bird some food since the bird helped them out. The illustrations were great for the book. Even if a beginning reader is having a hard time reading, they are able to follow along with the pictures and still understand what is going on in the story. The language has parts that rhyme throughout the book. There are one maybe two sentences per page, except the song from the bird. There are quotations marks, capital letters as well as exclamation points. Ted and Fred both have their names on their shirts so kids know which person is which. ( )

Very engaging early reader! My kid pored over the colorful, catchy illustrations and he loved the juxtaposing of Fred and Ted. In my opinion not quite up there with [a:P.D. Eastman's|13898|P.D.
