Juvenile Fiction. Juvenile Literature. Picture Book Fiction. HTML:

Boomer's ready for his morning walk. Here's his leash. There's the door. But try as he might, he can't get anyone to pay attention to him. The humans in the house don't rush out the door after breakfast as they normally do. And, most confusing of all, strangers arrive to pack all the things in Boomer's house into boxes. There's definitely something unusual going on. The simple text and heartwarming pictures charmingly depict Boomer's confusion, anxiety, concern, and ultimate delight on this day familiar to all - moving day.

This is another book that I liked to read when I was younger. One reason I liked it was because of the heartwarming pictures on each page that really depict how Boomer, the dog, was feeling. On one page it showed an aerial view of Boomer hiding among boxes and furniture and on the next page Boomer was in the same spot, however everything was taken away and packed up. Mary Whyte was creative in that way with the illustrations. This is an easy read, and is really only geared towards young kids because of how simple and predictable the text is. I would have loved to see a more detailed and challenging version because I think the message was a good one. This book addressed the anxiety and confusion during a move, but at the end of the book, Boomer loved his new home. This book could help out kids who are moving and don't know what to expect. Overall, I would rate this book a 3 or 4/5. ( )

Cute book for moving or just as an enjoyable read with a dog loving boy. ( )

Boomer is a dog who wakes up looking for a good walk and someone to play with. Sadly no one has time for Boomer today. Also movers come to his house and pack up all the things in his house. After a long uncomfortable car ride Boomer’s family arrives at a new home. Quickly Boomer sees that his new home has a great new back yard with other dogs to play with.

This story was ok but not great. It has a very predictable story line and would only be suitable for very young children. But it does have a nice message about accepting change.

1.) Having a discussion about ways to accept changes.

2.) Draw pictures of their dream house.
