Murakami est, à mes yeux, un auteur hors du commun un peu comme l'est Garcia Marquez. Ils ont en commun cet onirisme et cette envolée vers l'au-delà du réel, et, pourtant, ce faisant, ils ne nous parlent que des heurs et malheurs de la vie de tous les jours.
Ici, un publicitaire se voit entraîné malgré lui à la recherche d'un mouton sauvage et Murakami a tôt fait de nous ôter toute certitude sur ce qu'est vraiment la réalité. Avec toute la force poétique à laquelle il nous a habitué.
Haruki Murakami est un grand auteur japonais. Ses romans se caractérisent pas l’insinuation du fantastique, bien souvent poétique, dans le quotidien des personnages. Il surgit incidemment, sans que l’on sans rende vraiment compte, un peu comme quelque chose qui nous paraît bizarre mais que l’on ne remarque pas tout de suite. Puis, petit à petit, il prend de l’importance et devient prépondérant dans l’histoire. N’allez pas croire pour autant que c’est là, et uniquement là, que réside l’intérêt de ses romans. Le quotidien, qui chez d’autres peut être insignifiant et ennuyeux, est souvent particulièrement intéressant et agréable à lire — je suis convaincu qu’il y a beaucoup à apprendre de cet auteur sur ce point. C’est certainement lié aux détails, aux ambiances, reconnaissables entre milles, qu’il parvient à dépeindre. On se sent tout de suite parfaitement à l’aise et on prend beaucoup de plaisir à boire une bière ou à préparer un repas en compagnie de l’un des personnages. A rêver avec eux et à basculer peu à peu dans l’autre monde. C’est exactement le cas de ce livre. L’auteur nous propose de vivre une aventure au côté d’un publicitaire qui va être confronté à une drôle d’histoire, une véritable quête à la recherche d’un mouton ! Je suis un grand amateur des oeuvres de Murakami mais je pense que ça ne doit pas être la cas de tout le monde. Je suis très sensible à sa façon d’écrire et j’apprécie beaucoup l’originalité de ses romans. Celui-ci est particulièrement prenant et flirte avec le fantastique jusqu’à y sombrer complètement dans une fin assez déstabilisante — je n’ai pas tout compris mais ce n’est pas très grave ni très important. Ce roman est l’un des premiers de l’auteur et comme chacun sait, les premiers romans recèlent de nombreux éléments autobiographiques. Celui-ci n’échappe pas à la règle. Avant d’être un talentueux romancier, il a été patron de bar et vous retrouverez en J. certains traits communs avec l’auteur. Ce n’est pas le premier livre de Murakami que je lis et je suis toujours client de sa prose qui m’enchante à chaque fois. Par contre, certains seront totalement déstabilisés par la bizarrerie de l’histoire et décrocheront sans l’apprécier — d’ailleurs si quelqu’un a une théorie pour expliquer la fin du livre, je suis preneur. http://www.aubonroman.com/2011/08/la-course-au-mouton-sauvage-par-haruki.html( )

I went back to the riverside road, and by the time I'd managed to catch a taxi the rain was coming down in a drizzle. To the hotel, I said.
"Here on a trip?" asked the old driver.
"Uh-huh."
"First time in these parts?"
"Second time," I said.
There are symbolic dreams — dreams that symbolize some reality. Then there are symbolic realities — realities that symbolize a dream. Symbols are what you might call the honorary town councillors of the worm universe. In the worm universe, there is nothing unusual about a dairy cow seeking a pair of pliers. A cow is bound to get her pliers sometime. It has nothing to do with me.
Yet the fact that the cow chose me to obtain her pliers changes everything. This plunges me into a whole universe of alternative considerations. And in this universe of alternative considerations, the major problem is that everything becomes protracted and complex. I ask the cow, "Why do you want pliers?" And the cow answers, "I'm really hungry" So I ask, "Why do you need pliers if you're hungry?" The cow answers, "To attach them to branches of the peach tree." I ask, "Why a peach tree?" To which the cow replies, "Well, that's why I traded away my fan, isn't it?" And so on and so forth. The thing is never resolved, I begin to resent the cow, and the cow begins to resent me. That's a worm's eye view of its universe. The only way to get out of that worm universe is to dream another symbolic dream.
The place where that enormous four-wheeled vehicle transported me this September afternoon was surely the epicenter of the worm universe. In other words, my prayer had been denied.
I took a look around me and held my breath. Here was the stuff of breath taking.
To sleep with a woman: it can seem of the utmost importance in your mind, or then again it can seem like nothing much at all. Which only goes to say that there's sex as therapy (self-therapy, that is) and there's sex as pastime.
There's sex for self-improvement start to finish and there's sex for killing time straight through; sex that is therapeutic at first only to end up as nothing-better-to-do, and vice-versa. Our human sex life — how shall I put it? — differs fundamentally from the sex life of the whale.

The interval between varies in direct proportion to the size of the ship. With anything of size, truth takes a long time in coming. Sometimes it only manifests itself posthumously.
