Of note: provision was made for Canada to join if it so chose -- all other new states by a vote of 9 states -- very little power for the federal government to do anything -- mostly concentrated on military rights of US and states -- eg. states could raise an army immediately if invaded or threatened, otherwise Congress would decide first; states would have supplies and be ready to raise a militia; states could maintain a naval force if "infested by pirates." -- the judicial process consisted of each state providing three nominees and the disputing parties alternating in removing names until the right number was reached. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

This pocket-sized hardcover edition contains the preamble, conclusion, and all thirteen articles that make up the Articles of Confederation. The original document--one of the United States' first governing documents--was passed by the Continental Congress in 1777, and later ratified by the states in 1781. Though the Articles of Confederation was not successful in creating a strong federal government, it did establish a set of rules for politics and governance that do--in some ways--still persist today. This document was replaced by the U.S. Constitution in 1789. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
