The trial occurred in late July of 1914 (the shooting of Gaston Calmette, editor of Le Figaro, occurred March 16, 1914) and dominated the Paris press while the war loomed. She was found not guilty by a 11 to 1 vote of the jury. French law is so different from what I know it seems farcical. The book talks a lot about French attitudes in the pre-war era and really spends little time on actual courtroom events. This was worthwhile reading. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Edward Berenson recounts the trial of Henriette Caillaux, the wife of a powerful French cabinet minister, who murdered her husband's enemy Le Figaro editor Gaston Calmette, in March 1914, on the eve of World War I. In analyzing this momentous event, Berenson draws a fascinating portrait of Belle Epoque politics and culture. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
