This story is about a brother, Mars, and sister, Venus, who have been giving a special gift to be able to communicate with trees. They learn a lot of knowledge and morals from their tree friend, Weeping Wendy, and want to do everything in their power to save her. Along the way the kids desire to spend more time with their parents is fulfilled and they get to take a trip as a family to Africa. While there they discover that their parents have also been given this God given talent to communicate with trees and find another tree friend, Colonel Kenaf, that’s the answer to their quest to save Weeping Wendy and their parent’s quest to save the environment.

This is a very lovely story about saving the environment. The characters are very realistic and their feelings and experiences are very believable. The pace and the way the story is told is almost musical and enjoyable. I believe children will really love it.

This book can be used in a Science class during the study of trees and the environment or during discussions about saving the environment on Earth Day. ( )
