Lady Bronwen, proud inheritor of the ancient ways of the Britons, had lost all she held dear. She had been widowed in war, then robbed of the ancestral home that was her birthright. And now her last hope was a stranger--one with whom she'd shared a single tender kiss. The foreign knight Jacques le Brun begged her to let him defend her honor--nay, her very life. But he owed fealty to the hated French who had conquered her country, England, and to the new faith they brought with them. Could Bronwen place her trust in the pure, untainted love she saw shining in this man's eyes--and follow him to a new world...'… (plus d'informations)

Biblical verse: Galatians 3:26-28
Not a bad star to the new Historical Romance series by Harlequin. Ancestral land in northeast England bequeathed to beautiful young woman, Bromwen of Rossall. Bromwen betrothed to smelly and dirty and bad-mannered Viking lord for political advantage purposes. She tries to make the best of it despite her attraction to a handsome Norman lord, Jacques le Brun, who she met on the night of her betrothal. Her husband does not consummate the marriage. A plot is revealed to keep Bromwen childless so that her scheming cousin, Aeschby, can take Rossall and form an alliance with the Viking’s evil son. After the Viking’s castle is besieged by Normans led by Jacques, Bromwen and sister Gildan go to London with intention of becoming nuns. Her feelings for Jacques leave her confused and unable to find direction. With the help of a generous family, Thomas Becket, a young priest, and the new king, Henry Plantaganet, Bromwen is able to win back Rossall, discover and accept Christianity, and marry the man she loves, Jacques. You are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus . . . .
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians---you are one in Christ Jesus.

For Mary Edstrom Robitschek, my dear friend, encourager and prayer warrior. Thank you for loving and supporting me all the way back to Rosslyn Academy in Kenya, and for helping me survive seventh grade math.

                                                                   Acknowledgments
My great thanks to four special people. To my agent, Karen Solem, for representing me with such love and care. To my editor, Joan Golan, for believing in The Briton twenty-three years after I wrote it. To Mary Robitschek, for transcribing all 694 pages of the manuscript from hard copy to disk. To Tim Palmer, for seeing the potential in the first book I ever wrote and for reading and editing its 694 pages more times than either of us likes to remember. May God bless you all.

Amounderness in northeast England

Like some relic of a half-forgotten age, the Viking longboat sliced through icy waters of the natural harbor.
