I enjoy stories about Greek Mythology, but because this is aimed towards a very young age group, I felt it was too flip for my tastes. This series has been very popular, though. It is a modern take on the ancient tales, in a more flippant vein. A bit of the gore from the original tales is present, yet the story lacks the impact I remember feeling from reading them in primary and middle school.

Light-hearted retelling of the story of Pandora's box: Zeus and the gods give Pandora the opportunity to capture and re-box the miseries. Purists won't care for it, especially its Disney 'tween movie feel. But kids familiar with Greek mythology will likely appreciate the parody, and those who don't know mythology will enjoy the adventures. Start of a series. ( )

Okay, this book was a lot better than I expected. The author takes quite a few liberties with Greek mythology, but you have to to write a story like this, and the important parts are there. Whether or not you like the story may depend on how much tolerance you have for the modern touches Hennesy sprinkles throughout the story ("Finally Pandy stood up, took off her school toga, and put on her sleeping garments. Now that she was a maiden, she was beginning to detest her combed cotton night-robes with the face of Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, and the little multicolored arches splashed all over them."). The story is pretty lighthearted, although there are some darker notes: Pandy's relationship with her mother is strained and her parents' marriage is a bit shaky. And of course, having seven evils loose in the world is causing chaos everywhere, but the author avoids saying anything really scary about that.

I hope that in later books, Pandy's friends Iole and Alcie are developed further. And I admit I was disappointed that Hennesy made Hera the villain—Hera is always the villain: it's trite. But it's a strong start, and I liked this book enough to want to read more of the series. ( )

The Kindle version of this book is riddled with spelling and punctuation errors. It also needs some work in terms of character development, dialogue, and accuracy. It reads like it was written by a middle school student. I wouldn't buy it (even for the 99 cents I paid) unless you are very forgiving or under the age of 11. ( )

This book focuses Greek mythology. There was a young god named Pandora who made a mistake by unleashing the all the evils things into the word. The story goes on about her journey of capturing the evils that she had accidentally unleashed. This book would be great for middle grade students.
