This isn't a superhero book and the climax isn't even the firefight at the end but rather two GI's--who aren't Frank Castle--arguing over what America really is. ( ) This is the Punisher's origin story...well, at least one of them. Garth Ennis, who has written a great deal of gory but interesting stories about the character for the MAX line, takes a stab at Frank's origins. Instead of his lust for death/vengeance starting after his family is gunned down, however, it starts during his Vietnam years. Frank is well on his way to becoming a sociopath before this story even starts, and as this is part of the MAX line, there's a lot of gore and blood and some rape (the former two caused by Frank, but the latter is not). The MAX line is not something that I like to read frequently, but on stormy nights when I'm in a funk, it's a good world to escape to for a little while, and this is a good story. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The year is 1971. With mounting casualties and a rising anti-war sentiment, America's time in Vietnam is coming to a close. Yet in the isolated Valley Forge Firebase on the Cambodian border, Captain Frank Castle is one of the few soldiers still committed to the fight against the enemy. With dwindling reserves, Castle must stand against an impending Viet Cong attack that threatens to wipe out the entire American platoon. To survive the battle, what grim decision must he make that will forever alter the course of his life? In this acclaimed tale, superstar Garth Ennis reveals the never-before-told story of the horrors Castle was forced to face to come home fromVietnam alive, ending in a shocking twist that will forever change how readers see Marvel Comics' most famous urban vigilante.
