K is for Kwanzaa by Juwanda Ford is an alphabet book about Kwanzaa. Each letter represents an object (such as food or clothing) common to the African heritage. Included at the beginning is a brief description of the principles and origin of Kwanzaa. This book would be great for teaching a lesson on different languages and cultures, because the vocabulary that the author introduces to the readers is actually Swahili. ( ) This is a nonfiction alphabet book describing a holiday that is practiced in the African culture. I like that it goes through each letter of the alphabet describing a different part of the holiday. It would be a great book to use around the holidays to inform the African Americans about their culture and this holiday as well as it can inform the other students in the class about different cultures. At the beginning of the book, before starting off with the alphabet, their is a short description describing how the holiday, Kwanzaa, came about. I like this book because it talks all about Kwanzaa and many children do not know about this holiday. It goes through all of the letters of the alphabet and gives an example of something to do with Kwanzaa that starts with each letter. This book would be good to read around the holidays because you may have some students in your classroom that celebrate this holiday. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
