Both the book and a Picasso print in the book signed by Picasso I love prints as a medium, and this sumptuous book is a fine introduction and reference to the art. Included are works by Durer, Rembrandt, Hogarth, Goya, Blake, Daumier, Pissarro, Manet, Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, Gauguin, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse, Braque, Picasso, Chagall and Miro. The introductory chapter also includes a lovely print by one of my favorites, Paul Landacre (pg. 18). This chapter also gives a nice rundown on the different methods of print-making, with examples of each. This is followed by the prints themselves, with nicely detailed critiques of each by the author. Of particular interest to me was Goya's "Tantalus" (pg 135), Daumier's "Rue Transnonain" (pg 153), Degas' "After the Bath" (pg 177), Cassatt's "Mother and Child" (pg 189), Toulouse-Lautrec's "Aux Ambassaseurs" (pg 199), Rouault's "Self-Portrait With Cap" (pg 217), all of Picasso's stuff and Vlaminck's "Landscape" (pg 237). But actually, all the prints shown here are noteworthy, with interest added by the learned annotation. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
