In his introduction, Blaylock tells how Lester Del Rey refused to publish this original version, mainly because the story jumps off the rails partway through, when Blaylock seems to forget that his characters are supposed to be on a quest, and has them take a side trip to visit the Man in the Moon of the title, at which point the story ends. Despite the validity of Del Rey's criticism, this version still has all the charm of the rewritten version, and a cute "punch line" ending. Very enjoyable for those who appreciate the whimsical humor of Blaylock's Balumnia novels, and definitely worth reading for fan's of Blaylock as it gives on insight in his early "aversion to plot".
