Do Christians act in malignant, deplorable, and at times self-destructive ways? Sometimes, yea. Does "Preacher, Volume 3: Proud Americans" express that in any realistic or clever way? No, in fact, it was kinda dumb and needlessly obscene.

As for the rest of this volume, while I did like it, it was all just back-stories; supplementary information that I couldn't say have any impact that wasn't already felt in the previous entries. Yes, Cassidy and Jesse are close friends, and yes, Jesse takes a lot from his dad, but I already knew that, I was told that in the previous 2 volumes.

If I had to summarize my feelings about the book, it's that there really isn't anything here for me. ( )

This volume was even more action packed than the previous one! The conflict between Jesse and the Grail comes to a bloody headm with a nice cameo from the angel who fathered the Genesis beast and a no-so-nice cameo entrance from the morbidly obese leader of the organization. The Lord also drops by long enough to tell Cassidy to tell Jesse to lay off (with the third time being the final straw). So far the Lord has spoken to both of Jesse's main companions, but he seems quite afraid to meet Jesse face to face, so I figure that something about getting the Lord and the Genesis being in the same room at the same time is going to cause some major magical problems. Obviously Jesse won't listen to anyone's warnings, so I'm anticipating a pretty big showdown next time (again). ( )

once upon a time preacher was the greatest thing I had ever read. now I've moved on a bit from being an angry recovering catholic and I'm not so invested in anything blasphemous.
I still quite like it, but it doesn't seem as mind bogglingly compulsive as I remember it to be. ( )

Well now! It looks like Robert Langdon has nothing on Ennis! And Ennis beat him to the punch, no?

Pretty delicious! I'm probably gonna gorge myself on these comics until I get as big as that fat man with the idiot. :)

Seriously though, Cassidy makes for a wonderful damsel in distress and he sure can take a lot of punishment, too. Even better was the tiny guest appearances of god, this time moving on from Tulip and giving Cass a little ugly heart-to-heart. Beast! lol

All told, extremely entertaining and obviously nothing scares Ennis. Nothing at all. I'm loving it. Total no-holds-barred glorious shite. Starr was a hoot and a half. Never met a funnier villain.

Not for the faint of heart or those who regularly clean their tongues with bars of soap. :)

What a great series so far. This book starts off and ends up with very moving stories. The beginning story was about Jesse's dad's time in the army during the Vietnam war. The ending story was about Jesse's desertion of the Irish army and the start of his new life in America--in New York City, of course. I found that last chapter very sentimental and moving. Maybe that was because it had the Statue of Liberty pictured with her head erect (while she still had reason to keep it so) and the Twin Towers still gracing New York's skyline.

AS for the action in this book, there was plenty. In fact, there was so much that I had a hard time keeping the characters straight plus what they each wanted to do with and to each other. I plowed my way through all of that and felt satisfied when the story of the Grail reached its resolution.

Ever onward! I'm now ready for Book Four.

By the way, I adore the friendship between Jesse and Cassidy. In a rough world, it's friendship that truly counts. ( )
