Their story would make a compelling movie but the book is so well-written one will have to wait for Hollywood to catch up. ( ) Thirteen Army Flight nurses, all 2nd Lieutenants and none over 32 years of age, were on a medical evacuation plane that crash landed behind enenmy lines in Albania during World War II. The nurses, 13 male medical technicians and the flight crew of four walked over 600 miles across the Albanian mountains in winter to make it back to allied territory. The Germans, meanwhile, knew the Americans were in country and hunted them. They had to stay away from towns and main roads, and sometimes hid in roadside ditches as the enemy drove by.
