Fiction. Thriller. HTML:

Master storyteller Jeffrey Archer keeps the pace sizzling in this final installment in the Kane and Abel trilogy, Shall We Tell the President?, a daring political thriller where treason and betrayal threaten to topple an American dynasty.
After years of great sacrifice and deep personal tragedy, Florentyna Kane has finally become the first woman president in America. But on the very day that she is sworn into office, powerful forces are already in motion to take her life.
The FBI investigates thousands of false threats every year. This time, a reliable source has tipped them off about an assassination attempt. One hour later, the informant and all but one of the investigating agents are dead. The lone survivor: FBI Special Agent Mark Andrews. Now, only he knows when the killers will strike. But how can he alone unravel a ruthless conspiracy—in less than one week? The race to save the first woman president begins now...

This is the third part of the Kane and Abel trilogy, although after a sparse few words with Florentyna actually being in the active part of the story is very limited, almost to her being talked about more as of an aside than actually having any real impact in the book. I understand this is a severely rewritten book that Mr Archer haphazardly rewrote to make this into the 3rd part of the above trilogy. It is sloppily rewrote to include Florentyna in anything really more than the first couple chapters, after which it pretty much flies as it was with not much added to the original to make it anywhere close to what the first 2 parts had going for them. This was shabbily put together solely to make more money as part of a trilogy where this book was not originally any where close to that. It looks to me like Mr Archer ran out of steam after the second book and didn't have any idea as to how to properly finish off the series. So he takes this book that was previously written and hacks it together with duct tape and bailing wire just to make the trilogy and to get the nice paycheck at the end of the day for completing that part of the contract.

This really has put me off from buying any other books by Jeffrey Archer. The first 2 books really had me turning pages and wanting to see what would happen next. The third book had me turning pages trying to find out where the bodies were strewn in haphazardly trying to getting this book to press. ( )

If you want to read a fantastic thriller, with characters who are not only believable, but likeable, then this book is for you. This one is going straight to my All-time Favourites shelf! ( )

I love Jeffrey Archer’s books and have read several of them. This was written decades ago and can still compete with the more sophisticated books of the present.

Marc Andrews is on his own to find out who wants the president dead. Time is running out as he tries to eliminate the suspects. The suspense builds as the danger closes in on him.

For conspiracy theorists, this is a book you will want to read. I always figure, it is someone close to you who poses the biggest threat, because you believe and trust them. They can look you in the eye as they lie and plot against you. Such is the case here. Be sure to look to your right, left, front and back as you turn the pages. You never know where the strike will come from.

I still think of the Kennedy assassination and whether or not there was a government conspiracy that brought him down. Why would that be so impossible to believe? Our government is no less greedy and corrupt than any third world country. How far would someone go to achieve their goal? Look around at present day events and you may find your answer. ( )

The original edition of Shall We Tell The President? takes place in 1984, and the threatened president is real-world politician Edward M. Kennedy. The revised edition of the book takes place in the late 1990s or early 2000s, and the threatened president is Florentyna Kane, the (fictitious) principal character in Archer's The Prodigal Daughter.

The original edition was published from 1977-1984; the revised edition was published from 1985 onward. The two editions should not be combined with each other, nor with copies for which the ISBN and publication date cannot currently be determined.
