I personally thought this book did a wonderful job at merging both the English and Spanish language into one book that will engage all readers. The story's main idea is about a boy's family and how they prepare and celebrate the Christmas (Navidad) holiday. The book does a great job teaching simple Spanish vocabulary words to children that relate to Christmas; its a great introductory book for students that are learning Spanish as well. I would recommend this book to any Spanish teacher to use within their class because it does a great job at using the language while teaching students the Spanish alphabet too. The illustrator does a wonderful job at using multiple colors in the illustrations to engage the readers. The illustrator does a good job at capturing the emotion on all the people's faces that match with the text. The author bolds the Spanish words throughout the book to point out to the readers the words that are in Spanish. I like how the author includes a glossary at the end of the book as an added text feature that can help readers translate the words into Spanish to English while reading the book. ( )

Rhyming Christmas tale uses the alphabet to tell the story of a Latino family's preparation for the holiday. Many words in Spanish, but easy to understand due to the context and bright illustrations. Glossary.

I really liked this book for a variety of reasons. This is a rhyming book that outlines the preparations for and celebration of the Christmas season, with Spanish words for each letter of the alphabet translated in the glossary. The first thing that made me really enjoy this book was the writing style. I liked how the book was organized in a alphabet format, while at the same time talking about a part of the Christmas holiday that starts with each individual letter. I language of the text had a rhyming aspect and I think that's great for kids reading the book because they can get into a rhythm and read along at a nice pace. The final part of the book that I thought was really cool was the glossary at the end of the book. For each word in Spanish throughout the book, there was a description in English in the glossary. This is great way for kids learning Spanish or English because it has text in both languages. ( )

A very good holiday ABC book going through Christmas Latino-Style.
Great read for introducing new cultures and traditions into your classroom around the holidays. This book also offered a lot of Spanish sight words that could also be used in a language learning classroom for older gades.

I liked this book for two reasons. First of all the illustrations were great and helped the reader identify with the text. Secondly, the way the book was written was great and had a nice educational aspect. The big message of this story was to help readers identify different Spanish words that begin with each letter of the alphabet. The book goes A through Z and a few others in between and gives example of Spanish words that correspond to those letters.
The illustrations used in this book help to engage the reader and connect to the text that at times could be confusing since some of it is in a different language. Each and every illustration corresponds to the Spanish word being used and shows a picture of the object, person, place or thing that is being described. For example, when the reader gets to the letter Z the word used is zapatos which is shoes in Spanish so in the illustration a number of different shoes are shown.
The writing of the book makes the book both easy to follow and also allows it to flow very well. Even though the book seems like it’s an English to Spanish dictionary in ways it takes a fun and interesting twist in the way it is written. Each page represents a different letter of the alphabet and shows a Spanish word that corresponds to it. All letters of the alphabet are included along with a few additions to help the reader identify multiple different words in the Spanish language. The writing is helpful in this way because at no point does it stray too far into the Spanish language that is would lose purely English fluent speakers. Any reader that just wants to learn a few Spanish words or even begin their learning of the language the writing works perfectly to help them begin their journey while keeping them entertained with illustrations that work well with the written text.
