A follow-up to the best-selling The 72 Names of God, this beautifully illustrated book draws from the teachings of Kabbalah to offer children a productive way to deal with the challenges they face in everyday life. Simple meditations and lessons teach children how to make positive choices throughout their lives and help them with specific issues that confront them at school and at home. Paired with the lessons are charming color reproductions of paintings by children giving their interpretation of each of the 72 Names. The paintings, original to this book, were created by at-risk children who have used these Kabbalistic tools to change their destiny. With its timeless philosophy, this inspiring book provides a way for children of all ages to gain a deeper understanding of their innate spiritual selves and find self-esteem, true friendship, love, and light.… (plus d'informations)

Thought this would be a little helpful in explaining some very basic kabbalah and at worst just cute and innocuous, but was sorely disappointed. The kids' artwork is fun and some of the principles admirable, but much of the "names of God" are rather vague, needing either more specific explanations or concrete suggestions on how to make good things happen. (This could be my bias toward action as opposed to just sitting in a chair and thinking things true, as this book recommends.) More troubling are two claims: that humans' anger is responsible for earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters, and that bad things that happen to us come about because of bad things we did. I have a very hard time with any line of reasoning that would lead a child to believe s/he somehow caused his/her parents to divorce, or a friend to die, or anything truly beyond his/her or any one person or people's control. If this is what proponents of kabbalah even remotely believe, I want no part of it. ( )
