I liked this story, very fast paced. I really ought to learn more about the sailing terminology! Seems to lead into the next in the series. ( )

What I like about Pope's Writing is that he develops his secondary characters very well. Not a book of blazing action, most of ramage's encounters are solved threw "ruse de geurre".

An easy fast satisfying read... Just what I needed. ( )

Ramage discovers the French semaphore system and uses it to his great advantage. Excellent series, sometimes based upon actual events. Always a good story with interesting characters, puzzling quandaries and sometimes quirky solutions. Age of sail tyros should read early in their literary questing for his knowledge and insights into fighting, sailing and British Navy life during these quite fascinating times. Many set in the Caribbean where Pope lived for most of his writing career enabling him to provide very helpful maps, not often found in fiction, for his scenarios. ( )

Napoleon's grootspraak dat de Middellandse Zee een frans meer was leek bewaarheid te worden toen hij de britse vloot uit het water blies en ze elders vastzette.
Maar wanneer de admiraliteit Captain Ramage en de Calypso uitzend op een eenzame rooftocht in zijn domein schrikt Napoleon zich rot.
Eenmaal aangekomen vindt Ramage al snel de levensader van de fransen en gaat erop af om hem af te snijden.
