Eva Wylie is a big lady with an even bigger heart who lives in an old trailer in a junkyard, where she and two dogs provide night security. She gets by, doing odd jobs for a Chinese businessman whose businesses aren't all on the up-and-up and whatever else comes her way, but her heart is in the theatre of showbiz wrestling. While moonlighting in a bar that suddenly errupts into a brawl, she rescues a singer who has fallen off the stage in a cloud of teargas and takes her home to recover. Eva has to adjust to the novelty of having a friend. But not for long, since her new friend is on the lam, one step ahead of a load of trouble. Threaded through the book is Eva's quest to be reunited with her sister, who was separated from her when they were young and in foster care. I love this character's narrative voice. She addresses the reader as if we're just having a good chin-wag: cocky, cheerful, funny, and oddly vulnerable. Liza Cody hits it spot-on. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

This novel shows how Eva cuts a swathe through London low-life. Big, ugly and irresistible, she's a female wrestler with criminal tendencies and large pectorals. When she's not working the sleazy wrestling circuit, she's a security guard living in a breaker's yard. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
