A lovely adaptation of a Neil Gaiman story by the team that brought us "Snow, Glass, Apples." Comics legend Colleen Doran gets credit for this version, trying a very different, and classical style that is influenced by medieval manuscripts and the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites. Colleen's style here perfectly adapts this tender story ab through the use of watercolor to tell the tale about out an elderly widow encountering the Holy Grail and Sir Galahad's quest to retrieve it from her. Chivalry is at once a tale about growing old, the temptation of immortality, & the nature of memory. ( ) A beautiful graphic treatment of my favorite Neil Gaiman short story - a story I've loved since I first read it around 25 years ago. The color palette is exactly right: light and summery, appropriate for a cozy cup of tea in the garden or the clarion call to storybook adventure. The "illuminated"-style pages for Galaad's own stories are just ::: chef's kiss ::: perfect. This is small but perfectly formed. I listened to this in recording, with the narration and Mrs Whitaker played by Glenda Jackson. Mrs Whitaker discovers the Holy Grail under a fur coat in the Oxfam shop one Thursday morning after collecting her pension from the post office. She thinks it will look nice on the mantlepiece, and so it does. She's then visited by Galahad, who is on a quest to discover the grail. Before she will let him in she asks to see some ID and his identification is a work of genius. He offers her precious objects she offers him a cup of tea and a sandwich for the journey home. It a fabulous mis-match, full of comedic moments, but pathos as well. Just brilliant. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
