In my opinion this is a great book for K-2nd Grade readers. The big idea/message of the story was to keep in mind that not every enjoys the same things as you so you must make an effort to be sensitive to everyone's choices. I think that this is a great message to instill in the audience. I liked the language used in the book because it was clear and concise but also descriptive enough so that the reader has an idea in their head of what is going on in the story. I liked how the sentence structure varied all throughout the story because this kept it interesting. The characters in this book were well-developed and believable (even though they are bears!). The story featured a lot of dialogue between Mama Bear and Papa Bear that seemed to reflect a real relationship (something that many children will recognize). I think that the more the reader can relate to the story, the more they will get out of the story. The plot was paced well and depicted the trail and error that Papa Bear experienced while planning for the Ghost Walk. ( )

Of course it is all a matter of preference, but I often find many of the BB books to be a bit gag-worthy in much the same way as cheesy old Full-House episodes. I also find that Papa Bear's constant portrayal as an insensitive oaf kind of rubs me the wrong way. However, my son really enjoys these books and seems to really identify with brother bear.
These books are always good for teaching good life lessons. Like Full House. ( )
