Young Adult Award Winner At first I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy this book. I was concerned it would focus too much on the paranormal elements in favour of plot. I'm very glad that I was wrong. Her was a well written story that kept the reader guessing right to the end. This was a good mystery story with a relentless pace to keep everyone on their toes, to work out not just who did it, but their motives and the means of the crime as well. Worthy of the Edgar Award it won. This won the Edgar Award for young adult mysteries and it's easy to see why. I read it as an adult and I was somewhat surprised at the ending. Throughout the entire book the mind ponders the who-done-it in the plot, along with the why and the how. There are so many parts of the mystery to solve. It is a very short story for being a mystery of this kind, so things felt a little bit fast-paced at times, but overall I would say it was worthy of the honors it received for the age group it is meant for. Many young readers should enjoy this book as an introduction to the mystery genre. Reading this made me feel so nostalgic. I bought this book ages ago when I hated reading. I tried to read it then I would stop around chapter two. Then I would try to read it again. I did this for a while until eventually I stopped reading it for a couple of years. Then when I finally started liking to read I decided I would finish it. Few years after that I finally finish it. I think I would have liked the book a lot better when I bought it, if I had the same love of reading I have now. I still think it's a pretty good book, although the story seemed a bit rushed. I'm just happy that I finished it after all these years. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

It was listed as a YA book and I can see where it would appeal to that age group more than to older readers. It was however a good story even if it was rather short. The "disappearance" was an interesting them for the author to build on. The story had a really slow start and started to fell a little bogged down...but it was worth the wait. There is a bit of a surprise at the end. I really wasn't suspecting the ending at all. ( )
