Simultaneous release with the print edition Final story in the popular Cairo Jim series, brilliantly narrated by the author. The Astragals of Angkor, strange ancient carvings from Cambodia, are discovered in the Vaults of Abandonment, deep below the Old Relics Society in Cairo. Where did they come from? Who are the people depicted on the Astragals? And why are they shown in such outrageous positions? Cairo Jim, that well-known archaeologist and little-known poet, finds himself faced with the most astounding revelations of his career, in this 18th title in the Cairo Jim chronicles. Little does he know that such bizarre contortions may lead to monumental destruction of all that we know... Yet more unexpected uncoverings from the chronicler of these annals of audacity, Geoffrey McSkimming! "Cairo Jim is nothing less than Tintin meets Lara Croft for the 21st Century." - Paul Blezard, Oneword Radio, UK. "When you tire of stories about the places and people you know, try the witty word play and over-the-top adventure of Cairo Jim for an outrageous tonic." - The Age Praise for previous Bolinda Audio releases in the Cairo Jim series: "Grab your pith helmet and join Cairo Jim on a pair of rollicking adventures sure to tickle the funny bone of young and old alike." - AudioFiloe Magazine… (plus d'informations)

I read this in a day, just after the final episode of The Sopranos was screened here, while the federal Minister for Health was impersonating an arrogant callus in his (probably) final days in office. As a finale, Astragals offers less closure but more certainty than the former, and inspires more hope and more sorrow than the latter. In Cairo Jim's world words like 'flabbergast' are part of normal speech, alliteration runs as wild as jungle creepers, similes (all more original than any I'm offering here) sprout like hairs in a mole, evil never wins the day but life would be much less interesting if it didn't try. These books have captured and sustained a loyal and ever-expanding following among their intended readership with no boost from awards and little notice in the press -- quite an achievement.
