Told through dialogue only this intriguing novel explores the relationship between 16 year old Courtney who is paralyzed and 88 year old Elvia who is nearly blind. It examines the power of the imagination in humans to overcome their disabilities. Despite the obvious tragedies this insightful story has a positive outcome. This story could be used as is for a powerful reader's theater in the classroom. There is one disturbing part of the story when a night janitor makes a sexual pass at Courtney. Coutney is able to continue to stand up for herself. With the exception of an discomfiting, abusive moment between teenage paralytic Courtney and a caretaker, this is a delightful, imaginary journey to Italy with two unlikely companions who find a way to escape physical incapacity. A tremendous tribute to the human mind, with the exception of the one, unfortunate moment in the book. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The book would be good for a discussion about the impact of serious injuries and using imagination in tough times. ( )
