Beautiful color illustrations!

When a set of twins who are born slaves in Rome decide to run away from their evil masters, they find that running away is a lot harder than they expected. They end up winning a charriot race and then save themselves from slavery again by saving Rome from the enemy that has just appeared at their doorstep.
This book is fairly realistic in historic accuracy. The fact that there were slaves in Italy during this time and the wrong way they were treated. It also proves to be a fantasy because in the story the slaves end up fighting the enemy and keeping them away from the city. This I find unrealistic since this is not something that could happen in our world today.
A teacher could use this book in a classroom to teach the students about Roman times and show kids exactly what slavery might have been like back then. A teacher could also use this book for appreciative listening.
The characters in this book do not build much throughout the book. The book is more focused on the facts of the story and its setting, but not so much the characters themselves and how they relate to the growth of the story. For example, the slaves do not have any of their own lines in the book. Everything is narrated which does not allow us to truly understand the characters as much.
