The Beauty of the Beast is a collection of poems from a large range of poets paired off with some beautiful watercolor illustrations. Each spread features an illustration of a specific animal or insect with a bunch of poems to match. Dust of Snow by Robert Frost on the crow page is probably my favorite. The Beauty of the Beast was a collection of poetry from many different poets. Each poems targets an animal, insect, or fish. This was not really a book I feel can just be sat down with and read. This is almost a reference book of short poetry that could be enjoyed many, many times before all of the poetry is read. The poems are a lot more advanced than I would have imagined for children, but that makes it appropriate for older children, even into middle school ages. The illustrations were kind of cool, like children's renderings of animals, but they did wonders for the cover which is what catches your eye. Children could be assigned a journal to take with them anywhere they go, and which they would be asked to observe all kinds of animals, bugs, plants they see and draw or write poetry about them. An idea which the entire group/class could do together would be to start a page circulating through the class and each student adds a line to the poem as it comes to them. These poems take you through various different groups of animals in the animal kingdom. You can read cute poems about puppies to fun poems about creepy crawlers. This anthology selected by Jack Prelutsky truly is a work of art. I loved this book. I had just as much fun reading it as my daughter did listening to it. The watercolor illustrations by Meilo So are amazing, make me wish I could paint. This would be a great book to use to explain poetry to students. You could have the students write a poem about something in nature. Also, you do an art unit over watercolor and have each student create a piece of art using watercolor. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
