"What's This?" is a picture book about a little girl finding a sunflower seed and taking care of it so it grows into a tall sunflower. She also retrieves the seeds from it with the help of a teacher so that her whole class can all grow their own sunflowers when spring comes around again. The story and illustrations depict the dedication and care that goes into taking care of plants while also showing how fun gardening can be. I would read this with my own students to introduce them to what it takes to care for plants and to branch off into different subjects about plants. ( ) This book is kind of like a step by step guide on how to grow a plant for young children. It started out with a little girl finding a seed but she wasn't sure what kind of seed it is. She decided to plant it to find out. Everyday she would feed that plant with water. I like how her tittle is "What's this?" Like the little girl in the story, the reader has this anticipation to know what kind of plant will come out of that seed. The plant grow bigger and taller each day until one day it turned into a sunflower. She then collected the seeds and shared it with her classmates. In the end, everyone has their own special sunflower. With this book, kids not only get to learn how to take good care of a plant but also learning about the joy of sharing. Author and illustrator Caroline Mockford does a great job illustrating the life cycle of a sunflower from seed to wilting in this informational picture storybook. The watercolor paints flow nicely with the text to tell the story of a lonely seed that is planted by a little girl and studied through it's growth. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
