On an island called Puerto Rico a boy named Roberto Clemente dreamed of nothing but winning at baseball. With no money -- but plenty of determination -- Clemente practiced on muddy fields with a glove made from a coffee sack. Little League became minor league, which turned into winter league...and, finally, he made it to the major leagues! With lightning speed, towering home runs, and grand slams, Clemente introduced himself to America. Spare, evocative language -- and magnificent illustrations -- tell the story of a great athlete and even greater man who rose through the ranks of baseball to become one of the most admired players of all time.… (plus d'informations)

I Loved this book, i grew up hearing about Roberto Clemente from my father, as i did growing up hearing about many different Latin american athletes. This a great story about his life and how he grew up with practically nothing just the desire to be great at baseball. This he eventually became a legend of the game and of that Pirates Franchise. I have actually visited Pittsburgh and by the baseball stadium there is a big statue in his honor. The author of this book does a great job detailing his life and gives you a realistic feel of what it was like to watch roberto clemente play in real time. ( )

This book, in my opinion, will definitely raise a few questions from the class because of the ending, but it can be used as another teaching point. Overall, it is an inspirational story that will teach children that hard work and dedication pays off eventually.

Biographies were some of my favorite books as a kid. This story is one that teaches kids that they can achieve their dreams even if they come from nothing it just takes hard work. I enjoyed this story a lot.

This a charming biography of Roberto Clemente, a major league baseball player from Puerto Rico. I loved his story and the illustrations are wonderful. This book reinforces the idea that if you work hard enough, you can make things happen for yourself. It also has a humanitarian theme. ( )
