Tio Armando is a short story that I would love to read to my class when I am a teacher. I enjoyed reading this short story, and I also enjoyed reading about the great person Tio Armando was. The story was written in first-person by one of Tio Armando's nieces. It was great to get an understanding of just how much the young girl loved her Uncle. It was told in such a passionate way which instantly made me also fall in love with Tio Armando. Tio Armando was a great man to his family as well as a great man to everyone he came across and I immediately began to fall in love with this character. He always brought gifts to people at the hospital and food for a homeless man in need whom he would see in the library. Tio Armando had a bittersweet relationship with everyone around him and taught lessons each day that even I as a reader had learned from. When Tio Armando passed away, everyone knew he would never be forgotten. One thing that stood out to me while reading, was when Tio Armando stated, "A promise is not broken. It comes true in a different way at a different time- that is all". This is a quote that I will always remember, because although things may have not always turned out perfect in the story, Tio Armando always taught his family, and I as a reader, that it's up to you to keep that promise no matter what you have to do differently in order to keep it. The story is set up like a calandar. The year starts out in May when Tio Armando moves in with the family. Lucitita is intrigued by Tio Armando. She follows him and liistens to his stories. Lucitita and her siblings are always around Tio Armando. She realizes that Tio Armando has a daily routine, that never changes. One memorable thing I liked in TIo Armando's routine is his daily visits to the hospital, and library. Tio Armando took the same route to the same places everyday. Many beautiful memories are created by Lucitita and her tio. The story ends with Tio Armando's death and Lucitita realizes that the secret her tio was holding from her is that although someone dies they live on in our memories, which can bring us much joy, more than sorrow.
