A spiritual story about the far-reaching effects of private actions. Mole has always led a simple life, but lately, he feels something is missing. When he first hears someone playing the violin, Mole realizes that he longs to make beautiful music, too. Through practice and patience, Mole learns to play. And even though he plays alone, in the privacy of his underground home, his music has an effect on others that is more magical than Mole will ever know.

This is a book about a Mole who did not feel like himself with what was happening in his life in this story. Then he started to learn to play the violin. When he wasn't playing he had powerful thoughts of the things that his music playing could do to change the world. Then after all his playing he did go back to bed again.

Summary: one day mole heard a man playing the violin and decided he wanted to make something so beautiful like that. So he got a violin and played. At first it sounded awful, but then as he kept practicing, he began to get much better. Then his dreams became bigger. He dreamed of playing for large audiences, noble people and presidents, then he dreamed of taking away anger and war in people. As he dreamed them, they happened on the surface.

Genre: this is a fantasy because moles do not play violins and they do not effect people's lives by stopping wars and creating harmony.

Theme: This story has an overarching theme that if you dream it you can do it. Nothing is to big for you to accomplish.

Genre: Fantasy

Critique: This novel is an excellent example of fantasy because it personifies an animal (the main character), giving him human qualities and abilities, and making this believable

Summary: Mole hears a man on his TV playing the violin, and decides that he himself will learn this skill. He practices and slowly becomes a wonderful musician, and his music carries more power than he will ever know

Style: The author makes good use of personification, creating a truly human-like character of an animal, giving him the ability to create powerful music, and possess human thought and speech

Media: Watercolor and ink on illustration board ( )

Wonderful book to show the power of music and how every action has a counteraction no matter whether you see it or not. A mole learns to play the violin, his playing nourishes a big tree, which nourishes a community. His music stops wars. ( )
