This story follows the life of Maximilian (Maxim) West from 1939 to 1989. Born in Berlin, Maxim flees the Nazis with his mother, Ursula, and nanny, Teddy, just ahead of the Holocaust. Unfortunately, Ursula returns to Germany to help Maxim's father get out and is never heard from again. With honesty and compassion, the book looks at the cruelty and horror of Hitler's war, where so many perished due to a madman's twisted vision of a white-washed world. However, raised and loved by Teddy, Maxim becomes an innovative and powerful businessman—shrewd in every sense of the word except for the women in his life. His timing and selection in this area are entirely lacking. This author's writing is extraordinary. However, large sections of the book do nothing but describe the lavish lifestyle of the super-rich. I have nothing against them, but it was boring after a while. ( ) Maxim West billionaire - child of German jews his success + loves - okay He is Maximilian West--billionaire tycoon and corporate raider extraordinaire. He is a figure of almost mythical power--an enigma to all who know him. But when his world is suddenly shattered, Maxim must make peace with his turbulent past and begin to understand the remarkable women who have loved and protected him. From the streets of London to the suites of New York, from the rise of Nazi Germany to the fall of the Berlin Wall, THE WOMEN IN HIS LIFE takes us on an unforgettable journey of survival, secrets, love and redemption that mesmerizes from first page to last. I loved how this book went through Maximilian's entire life and the effects the various women had on his decisions. The fact that his babysitter ends up taking over the role of his mother is very endearing. Any other babysitter would deliver him to that point and then continue with their own life. This book was writen with feeling and with much love. Taylor-Bradford certainly delivers. this book is engrossing and vividly written - i was living in the time of Hitler and feling the impact of his decisions. the breaking down of the Berlin wall was a good way to bring the book full circle. i will continue my Taylor-Bradford collection. she has not dissapointed me Another saga I couldn't put down. Gripping, superb read. Back Cover Blurb: Maximilian West: filthy rich, corporate raider and a man of almost mythical power, glamour and charm. He appears to have everything.
