I enjoyed reading this book as much for what it revealed about the author, as the descriptions of his brother's transformation into a Hasidic Jew. In writing this, his first, book, the author reconnects with his long-estranged brother and explores both the motivations for and the details of his brother's decision to become a "frum" Jew. What gives the book especial depth and makes it so compelling is how the author looks honestly at his feelings toward his younger brother and his own relationship to Judaism. It prevents the book from being an expose of Hasidic life and reveals a real desire to understand his brother's transformation. ( )
