This is the really moving memoir of Sonia Jacobs, who spent 17 years in prison in Florida, five of which were in solitary confinement on death row, convicted of a crime she didn't commit. Her boyfriend was also convicted, imprisoned and eventually executed. Her story is really inspiring; she missed her children growing up and her parents died while she was in prison. However the general tone of the book is positive and upbeat although some of the letters between her and her boyfirend Jesse are heartbreaking. She credits yoga and meditation with keeping herself sane during her years in prison and she truly is a wonderfully strong woman. ( ) I picked this book up about ten minutes before hearing Sunny Jacobs speak at a conference. I was so motivated and inspired by Sunny's story, her lack of bitterness (and trust me she has a lot that she could be bitter about) and her amazing humour and ability to enjoy each day that she has now been given. her book does not disappoint either. You get all the details from what it was like inside, her personal feelings and the so many injustices that happened - it is a page turner. However what was most striking was her ability to show the good times and the bad times along with the pure honesty in which she describes them. A very remarkable book. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
In 1976 a 28 year old mother of two and her partner were wrongfully sentenced to death by the Florida courts for the murder of two police officers. Sunny Jacobs would not taste freedom again for 17 years, by which time her two children were estranged, her parents were dead, and her partner had been executed.
