Travel journalist Jennifer Cox loved her job but hated her love life. Were the two somehow related, she wondered? And if so could she not try to make it her job to meet Mr Right? In search of the man of her dreams, Jennifer begins to organise her global network, asking friends, business colleagues and friends of friends (all of them more affectionately known as Date Wranglers) to set her up with every interesting, unusual, special or simply gorgeous guy they can find in their little black books - as long as they fit Jennifer's Soul Mate Job Description. Date in Italy and the High Roller in Vegas; from the one-legged journalist in China to the Chief of the Harbour police in Sydney, Jennifer travels around the world: 80 men, in 22 countries, on 5 continents, in 8 months. But Jennifer has strict rules about dating, as well as a certain set of expectations, and as she struggles with doubts, excess baggage and date fatigue, she starts to wonder if it is actually really possible to seek and find Mr Right? And what would happen if she did track him down? Only time, travel and 80 dates would tell...… (plus d'informations)

Feeling like her soulmate wasn't on her home turf, British writer and former PR spokesperson for Lonely Planet travel guides, Jennifer Cox sets out to travel the world and meet up with eighty men for blind dates.

I enjoyed this book. Jennifer is witty and engaging, and the book is a fun read. The structure could have been set up a number of ways but Jennifer chose to include a lot of information about why she was doing this as well as how--using friends and acquaintances across the globe as date wranglers. This is sort of a sub-genre I've noticed lately where the journey of book creation is almost as important as the project it is about. So another way this book could have been written was simply to focus on each date. But I do enjoy the memoir aspects of Jennifer's journey and her internal dialogue.

The dates themselves--well, I couldn't help but think she was expecting alot out of some of these guys and probably about 80% of them disappoint her in some way. I don't know that that is fair to all of the men she meets on her journey. But she was up front that she was on a mission to meet her soul mate--and when a girl knows what she wants she should go for it.

Does she meet him? Ha, you'll have to read the book yourself to find out. ( )

Who has the time & money to plan 80 dates with different men all around the world?

This book has been on my shelf for years and I hadn't gotten around to reading it. Sad because it was good and really resonated with me. Really honest and relateable for anywoman who has been on a large number of dates. I loved it even more having been in a transatlantic relationship (now we are married!) and knew all the stress and heartache she was going through. I would recommend this book to any woman who has ever been single and gone searching for love. ( )

The concept is one woman's quest to find her Soul Mate and her willingness to travel the globe to find him. The story is good, but didn't live up to how good I expected it to be given the concept.

Spoiler Alert:

Our heroine does meet her match 55 dates into the odyssey, while on the American leg of her dating tour. The epilogue indicates this was indeed a long-term fit. ( )

I find it hard to believe that she didn't embellish a little bit - sounds a bit like a comedy or a movie. I also find it a bit hard to sympathize for a woman who's obviously successful career-wise, so much so that she's able to quit her job in order to travel around the world just to go on dates.

The beginning of the book hooks you in with her humourous insights - but after 150 or so pages of me, me, me, and more me...can be a bit draining.

But - it was nevertheless enjoyable - I wanted to know what happened in the end. So I'm giving it 4 stars. ( )
