( ) This book is a great example of science fiction, because a group of young boys are trying to uncover the discovery of a "meteorite" that has fallen in their neighbor's yard. The group of boys discuss scientific laws and design tools which will assist them in their discovery. The author keeps readers engaged as he adds twists throughout the plot, which intensify the story. However, there is a witty end, as the boys think they see aliens, which are actually professional painters with their masks on. Age Appropriateness: Primary/ Intermediate Media: Acrylics Genre Science Fiction Age Appropriateness: Primary Review: This book is a good example of science fiction because the plot includes science-based inquiries such as space travel, aliens, and unidentified objects. The Dangerous Space and Reptile Club, with the help of a boy visiting the neighborhood, set up space equipment to track flying saucers and make contacts with aliens. They find an unidentified object and research the origin of the piece. Media: This book is a good example of ink and wash because the pictures are outlined with ink and filled with various watercolors. The various drawings of aliens, space ships, and space equipment allow readers to relate to the plot at a more meaningful level. This is a delightful book that young boys are sure to enjoy, especially if they are interested in Space. A group of young neighborhood friends describe a magical summer of imagination and discovery when they meet up with Neil, a science buff.
