Clarice Bean has a very busy family. There is never much peace in their home. Her dad uses his work office to get peace, while her mom likes to take hot baths. Her older brother is a teenager who often locks himself in his room. Clarice has an older sister who is boy crazy, and finds her annoying. Clarice hates that her older siblings get their own rooms and she has to share a room with her annoying little brother. ( )

Clarice Bean is a little girl that is a part of a big family. Unfortunately for her, all she wants is some alone time. She shares a room with her little brother and they are always fighting. The readers get to meet the other members of her family, like her older brother and sister, her mom, and her dad. We get to hear how each family member gets their alone time, but every time Clarice tries to have some alone time, someone else is there to mess it up. Eventually her and her brother are fighting so bad that Clarice gets herself in trouble and gets sent to her room for 3 hours. Finally, she has some alone time, even at the expense of being in trouble. the illustrations in the book are very well thought out and fit with the descriptions and text in the book. The thing i didn't like about this book was the method that Clarice had to go through to get some time by herself. If a child is reading this book and also comes from a large family, they may mistake getting in trouble with the only way of getting to be by themselves. It could potentially create the same problem at school, though with greater consequences. Because of that, I would choose to not have this book in my classroom library. ( )

Clarice Bean is like any other little girl, she wants her privacy. Every one else in her house has gets their privacy so why cant she? Her grandpa gets in his own room because he is old and sleeps all day. Her baby brother and her teenage sister all get their privacy, even her cousins get privacy. Her father gets to go to work all day and gets peace and quiet there and when her mother needs some quiet time she stands on one leg or soaks in her tub. Clarice is the only one in her family that has no place to her self. Her life is hectic and loud. The stress and frustration gets to poor Clarice and she can not take it anymore. She gets so angry that she "accidentally" throws a blanket out the window. She is in big big trouble and is waiting for her punishment. She gets sent to her room for a whole 3 hours. For 3 hours she does nothing, she hears nothing and she is with no one. Finally some peace and quiet and she is loving it. This is such a cute story. I love the illustrations and the style of writing. The images depict Clarice's life perfectly. ( )

Clarice bean wants nothing more than some quite alone time, but she is having trouble doing so in her chaotic house. Lauren Child's clever text and bright, colorful illustrations really capture the reader. Lauren Child does and excellent job displaying the chaos in Clarice Beans house. This book is very different from the sibling relationships in the series Charlie and Lola. ( )

Clarice Bean is the story told by Clarice Bean about her family and friends. It is relatable in so many ways by children and adults. This is one of my go to authors when teachers request a read aloud to their class or for small groups. The illustrations are fascinating, there is a lot going on so young readers may need more time to digest the pictures. There is a mix between hand drawn cartoons, patterns and lots of textures in Lauren's books. The stories are quirky and funny.
