Another solid read in the series as Tom and the Spook face off against the threat of the various tribes of witches coming together to release the ultimate evil. ( ) Another excellent entry in The Last Apprentice series. The cast of characters grows as does the lore. Even though this is the fourth book it feels like a bridge between the previous two books in that it sets up a much bigger bad for the Spook and Tom to tackle in the future. We learn a lot more about the different witch clans and even some different types of witches! A thoroughly enjoyable middle grade fantasy/horror book. Not my favorite of the series but I remember reading it was the author's favorite. One reason being, he introduced Grimalkin and another is, he retired from his other job and got to focus on being an author. A question... the binding put on the fiend says he can't kill him directly so why did tom need the protection of that room? Notes saved from a conversation You are right. At the end of book #6, in his journal Tom says, "We're back at Chipenden and into our old routine." Then the next book the opening lines are "The Spook, Alice, and I were crossing Long Ridge on our way back to Chipenden, with the three wolfhounds..." As Apprenatice Tom, Alice and the Spook prepare to battle the possible alliance of three covens of witches in Pendle, brother Jack, his family and Mam's trunks (left to Tom) are stolen by one of the clans. Then a young witch Mab, decides she wants Tom for her own. Once again, Tom has to battle evil and worries that he is not living up to the standards his parents instilled. This book is about a spook apprentice named Tom. He trys to stop opening a gate that unlease the fiend (the devil) from witches. Appartient à la sérieListes notables
When witches steal Tom's inheritance and kidnap his relatives, Tom, the Spook, and Alice set out for Pendle Hill, a particularly dangerous district, in hopes of preventing the three witch clans from uniting to raise the Fiend, the Devil himself, thus bringing about an age of darkness.
