Lieutenant Dair mu T??resa heads up a squadron of SEAL (surgically enhanced/altered lifeform) pilots. Set in Cherijo Grey Veil's universe. Commander Dair is an alter-form able to function above and below water. Space pilot, finds her home in the Bio-Rescue unit. A little dry, but a good read. ( )

Heavily charactered (is that a phrase?) space opera set in the Star Doc universe (but not part of the series. Viehl has a way with introducing inter-species interpersonal relationships...and all the complexity that implies. ( )

Cherijo Torin may dusted Kevarzangia Two off her space suit, but for some residents, the Core plague she cured were long-reaching and life-altering. For Commander Dair mu T'resa the Core plague was all that and more - altered as a newborn by radical surgeries that melded human DNA with her own Zangian cells in a radical effort to save her life, she is now a SEAL (surgically enhanced/altered life-form) pilot for the League. She and her pod of fellow SEALs make up a planetary patrol/defense unit for K2.

The ongoing Hsktskt/League conflict has dramatically increased the number of refugees flooding in to K2 - unfortunately not all of them are what they seem. As Dair struggles to find her own way between the land dwellers of her adopted mother's race and her own people, tensions rise between the newcomers and K2's natives. Can two cultures so diametrically opposed ever find a happy medium?

Interesting to see what's happening elsewhere in Stardoc universe - much like Shockball the events here only tangentially relate to what's going on elsewhere. Which is actually rather refreshing. ( )

Great adventure told from the point of view of a nonhuman protagonist. I was completely caught up in how all the different species related in this novel. ( )
