Dani Blake is catering for a large party in Charleston. Her old family friend, Richardson Whyte, is giving the party to celebrate his niece's engagement. During the party (which is taking place near Halloween) a drama group stops outside the house to put on a play. It is an old tradition to have Ghostwalk's around Halloween---drama groups stop by at various houses in the historic district, houses that have a ghost in their history. The drama group reenacts the ghostly legend at each house/stop. During the Ghostwalk production, which everyone at the party is watching, Richardson gets a phone call and leaves. Dani has been worried about Richardson all night, he looked tense and preoccupied. A few minutes later, Dani goes looking for him and finds him. He has been shot and he's dying, but he seems to be trying to tell her something before he dies. He puts something in her hand---a small pin of a yacht. But what does it mean? With the help of Ken McCabe, who was working undercover as a bartender at the party, they begin to look for answers. Why was Richardson shot, who killed him, and is the pin a clue?

I really liked this book. Dani was a good heroine---she really liked Richardson and was saddened by his death. She was told he was an old friend of her father's, and he was always kind to her. I also liked Ken. He was a security specialist hired to protect Richardson from a blackmailer. I liked how Ken kept looking for the truth, even when he was fired from the case---he believed in Dani and wanted to help her. This was a good Harlequin Intrigue with nice Charleston locations, interesting characters, old family secrets and revelations, and a likable hero and heroine. ( )
