I always enjoy Laurie King's books, and have read all of her Kate Martinelli and Mary Russell books, but somehow overlooked this quasi-standalone novel. I enjoyed the characters and the period details, but somehow couldn't quite accept everything as realistic. I've really enjoyed what I've read of her other books, and my husband adores the Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell series, but this one was just plain bad. ( )
