"Thoughts for Young Men," by J. C. Ryle, is a short yet passionate appeal that, a hundred years after it was written, remains relevant for today. Replete with warnings, exhortations, and instruction about this life's many trials, temptations, and common pitfalls, "Thoughts for Young Men" is biblical, practical, timeless, and wise. Ryle covers four great temptations that plague most young men: sloth, lust, love of pleasure, and peer pressure. One of the last great Puritans, Ryle tackles each subject with unsurpassed tenderness and tact. Readers will chuckle at some of the exhortations to stay away from books and newspapers that lead to sin. If only Ryle could see us now, with cable TV and the Internet. Ryle's advice will help any young man to live a more obedient, full life. "Thoughts for Young Men" is an excellent book for adolescent and teen boys to read. It encourages them to choose the high path of integrity rather than to yield to the many temptations to stray from that path. J. C. Ryle's style is one of a passionate appeal based on solid logic and the truth of the Scriptures.… (plus d'informations)

This is one of the greatest books for men - all men - in our day. As a pastor, this goes in the graduation gift-bag for all of our graduating young men.

One of the beautiful things about this book is that it IS so short. For young men - particularly ones who aren't overly keen on reading - this is book is easily manageable. There are versions offered with study guides and updated language that would be greatly helpful in this situation as well. ( )

Conviction, encouragement, and hope abound. Ryle’s classic is still eerily relevant for today. It’s value to the church and to Christian men could not be calculated. Will be going on my mandatory reading list for my boys when they are older. ( )

A book written over a hundred years ago by an Anglican bishop, relevant for today's teens? Yes, it is. Thoughts for Young Men is short, blunt, Biblical truth directed specifically to young men. He outlines pride, love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, contempt, and fear of men as specific dangers that young men must watch out for, and gives specific advice on how to deal with them. He has sections on rooting out sin, the importance of the Bible, and prayer. It is a great starting point for talking with a teen or group of teens seriously about walking with Christ. ( )
