From acclaimed musician Alicia Keys comes a revealing songbook of collected poems and lyrics that document her growth as a person, a woman, and an artist. "All my life, I've written these words with no thought or intention of sharing them. Not even with my confidants. These are my most delicate thoughts. The ones that I wrote down just so I could understand what in the world these things I was thinking meant..."  When she burst onto the music scene with her multi-million bestselling, Grammy® Award-winning first album, Songs in A Minor, Alicia Keys became a superstar. Two decades later, her career has expanded into producing, acting, and passionate activism--winning her worldwide acclaim, numerous awards, and a spot on Time's list of "The 100 Most Influential People." Though Alicia has been very vocal through her career, there were always "delicate thoughts" that she never before imagined she'd share with anyone else--until now. In Tears for Water, Alicia Keys opens the journals and notebooks that she has kept throughout her life and reveals her heart to her fans in return for all the love they have shown to her and her music. Hello morning now I see you cause I am awake What was once so sweet and secure has turned out to be fake Girl, you can't be scared gotta stand up tall and let 'em see what shines in you Push aside the part lying in your heart like the ocean is deep, dark and blue --from Golden Child… (plus d'informations)

Tears For Water is a compilation of poems by Alicia Keys and the lyrics to her first two albums.

I enjoyed reading this book. I felt Key's honest through the poems. She even included a little back story to some of them as well, which I always enjoy hearing about.

Dear Alicia Keys,
I read your book. You don't get to throw together random phrases and pass it off as poetry. That's not how it works. Worst poetry compilation ever.

Not only can this girl sing, but lord, can she write. I loved this book. Her poetry was so deep, but not so deep that the reader couldn't feel her pains/joys/concerns. For being so young, I think this woman is incredible. I've always been a huge fan of her music, but I especially loved this little inside look into her mind. As much as I liked the lyrics section at the back of the book, I've listened to those songs so many times that I've known those words for quite a while. I have to say, I did not want the section with her poems to end! What a fresh voice she has. The thing is, because she's relatively young, it was much easier for me to relate to what she was saying/feeling. I loved each poem in it's own rights, but my favorites were "Golden Child," "P.O.W.," "Unfulfilled Keys," "The Shore (You Sure?)," "Cosmopolitan Woman," "Still Water," "Angel," "Such a Strong Word," and "Everywhere is Nowhere." I would highly recommend this book to her fans or to anyone looking for some modern, heartfelt poetry. There's always the fear of putting yourself out there, in a personal way, which is what I think that Alicia did with this book. Alicia has always written down her private thoughts so she herself could understand them better. Here she voluntarily shares what was once very secret and deeply felt. Her poems speak of the struggle to claim one’s own worth, power, and freedom as a woman. Her lyrics address the power struggle of love, attraction and establishing balance in relationships.
