Captain Alan Lewrie returns for his tenth roaring adventure on the high seas. This time, it's off to a failing British intervention on the ultra-rich French colony of Saint Domingue, wracked by an utterly cruel and bloodthirsty slave rebellion led by Toussaint L'Ouverture, the future father of Haitian independence. Beset and distracted though he might be, it will take all of Lewrie's pluck, daring, skill, and his usual tongue-in-cheek deviousness, to navigate all the perils in a sea of grey. “Troubles hurt the most when they prove self- inflicted – Sophocles” We find Captin Lewery in London recounting his great success in Camperdown against the Dutch sharing the story –with the usual party going people and his father… his mind wandering back and forth between the battle and its telling and the disaster of his wife finding out his knavery – basically adultery. He does and did take care of his family financially. He also finds out about his his “greek:” son. He winds his way to the Carribian and Santa Domingo... to escape his troubles... the story has historical presence as well as the usual humor and pathos. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
