In 2011 Los Angeles sculptor Jon Krawczyk set off for New York city, a 9-11 memorial cross strapped to the back of his pickup. He figured on four, maybe five days of highway monotony interspersed with moments of breathtaking scenery and, perhaps, a few conversations with strangers he'd meet along the way. To ease the boredom he invited me along for the ride. What happened over the next two weeks was something neither of us could have imagined.
