Still interesting - a very different world - but the acceleration is problematic. The first book was good largely because Ravirn didn't have the power to go head-to-head with his opponents, but had to find ways around. Now his power has suddenly ballooned - he's still figuring it out, but he's facing down some serious powers and handling it. Escaping the maze was a good example - Clotho clearly expected it to hold them, it didn't even slow him down. And the final confrontation and aftermath...I hope his allies can keep his head from swelling too much. This is only the second of (so far) five books! I'll certainly read the next, after that we'll see. Interesting relationships, too - with Shara, Cerice, Cerberus, Tisiphone, Eris, and of course Melchior (though that one doesn't advance as much as the others). Next! Ravirn's girlfriend Cerice lost her webgoblin Shara in the events of WebMage, and Ravirn is determined to bring Shara back from the dead. All he has to do is get past Cerberus and retrieve Shara from Hades. What could possibly go wrong? In the process, he manages to set off conflicts that establish his reputation as a cosmic-class troublemaker. There are plenty of amusing moments, a rather unsettling love triangle that could've used some more development, and a power curve for our hero that makes Anita Blake's life look positively sedate. Save this one for a time when you need some entertaining mind candy. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

I suspect this series has already jumped the shark, but I still plan to read the third. You never know.
[Later note: I've decided to leave the above as originally written for now, but I did feel better disposed toward this book after reading the third one.] ( )
