Monogamy is a relationship that involves just one partner at a time as opposed to several. Although it's typically both, a monogamous relationship might be sexual or emotional. However, some people struggle to maintain monogamy even when they only want to be with one partner. Infidelity, separation, breakups, and divorce may result from this. I am from India, and I practice Hinduism. As per the history of Hinduism, monogamy has prevailed since the Vedic period (1500-500 BCE). Even though other forms of marriage, like polygyny and bigamy, have been permitted under certain conditions, monogamy has been the dominant form of marriage. Until I read this book, I wasn't aware that even monogamy has under-wrapped issues. The normalising attitude might have softened the problems, and we women have overlooked them. This book taught me some unquestioned things.

Belinda Tobin examines the many issues in monogamous marriages in her provocative book "The Moral Dilemma of Monogamy." Tobin explores the conflicts between our natural impulses and societal expectations with a brave and wise perspective, illuminating the opposing forces that frequently cause physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual distress in ourselves and our loved ones.

For their well-being as well as the sake of future generations, Tobin urges readers to examine the sacredness of existing institutions. She opposes the widespread propensity to break promises when problems develop, highlighting the significance of looking at how relationship structures could fuel conflicts. Tobin advises us to consider if the restrictions of the monogamous paradigm obstruct our capacity to properly connect with our relationships rather than criticising them for perceived shortcomings. Instead of outright dismissing the problems that threaten the stability of our relationships, she calls for adopting a different strategy.

Within the pages of this book, readers will find answers to the challenges of coupledom. Tobin deeply delves into monogamy, exploring its biological roots, human history, and successes and failures. She skillfully outlines the moral dilemmas that saturate monogamy, demonstrating their profound impact on our ability to foster open-hearted and honest relationships.

It is important to note that "The Moral Dilemma of Monogamy" does not advocate for any specific relationship model. Instead, it serves as a compendium of thoughts on the inherent difficulties of sexually exclusive relationships. Tobin weaves together wisdom from nature, science, psychology, and spirituality, offering a comprehensive and enlightening exploration. Ultimately, she aims to help individuals understand their truth and foster conversations grounded in realism, reverence, courage, and compassion.

By reading this book, readers can learn to build relationships that are less driven by fear and more rooted in love for themselves and others. Tobin's powerful message reminds us that we all deserve love, and she guides us toward self-discovery and connection. "The Moral Dilemma of Monogamy" is a compelling and empowering read that invites us to question our preconceived notions and embrace a more authentic and fulfilling approach to relationships. ( )
