"For the young, blind heroine of The Invisible Elephant, the world is a thrilling place full of sounds, smells, and sensations. Although she doesn't see the world outside with her eyes, nothing stops her from encountering her surroundings with joy and an impressively creative imagination. In four charming stories, we go with her to the zoo, the museum, and art class, and get a peek into her wonderfully magical mind where her grandfather's walking stick can transform into a horse and a sled can become a whale. When the time comes for her to learn braille, we watch how her family and friends cheer her on as she discovers how to navigate the world in her own way"--… (plus d'informations)

A little blind Russian girl uses her imagination and her other senses to navigate the world and make friends. Reading the book feels like stepping into the world of a small child who is sight-impaired, but there's also the Russian cultural differences. I couldn't really sort out the oddities, but the book was sweet and engaging in its different perspectives on childhood and the world.

A lovely and sweet collection of stories about a blind girl navigating her world, imagining friendly elephants and whales, learning Braille, having fun with her grandfather and a new friend, and more. What I really enjoyed about these stories is that no one made a big deal about the girl's blindness yet it's woven in subtlety and compassionately throughout. ( )

The world is a vivid place, even for those who are disabled. The Invisible Elephant is the perfectly ordinary story of a young blind girl. Author Anna Anisimova depicts how touch and sound are critical to functioning without sight.

Illustrator Yulia Sidneva bridges the gap between the experienced world and the imagined world so that readers understand the creativity of the young blind girl. The use of negative space, limited color pallet, and literature encourages readers to experience ambition, curiosity, and creativity. ( )

This book is a collection of very short stories, less than a page long, when put together makes a longer story about a young girl and her everyday adventures. She doesn't state that she is blind, but as you read through the stories it is easy to deduce she is blind or low-vision. The illustrations accompany the stories well and add charm to the book.

I have a soft spot for books about disabilities that are not sad or inspiration porn. This one gently focuses on the girls experiences and doesn't make herself feel sad, more just how she experiences life. I also like books that are translated since they are harder to find, so a double bonus with this book. I look forward to seeing more books from this imprint bringing books about disabled people and translated. ( )

A darling collection of four stories about a blind girl as she navigates her world, which is filled with imagination and playfulness, even as she encounters people who are not always understanding. The stories themselves are wonderful but the illustrations are also gorgeous, and I liked that each story had its own color story that coordinated with the subject of that part of the book, which was a nice touch.
