Little Sister is a hard worker and has a very good attitude. She is always positive no matter how difficult her life may be. She continued to sing and hum while she worked even in the mist of all the horrible insults hurled at her from her mean family. This was a great story to demonstrate the wages of positivity and politeness verses the cost of being ill-mannered
and cruel. Wonderful story, I especially like the revision of Cinderella. I wasn't so fond of the small drawing. I didn't think it did the story justice. ( )

Little sister is a little girl that is abused by her stepmother and stepsister. She is given tasks that are impossible. Her mother makes her bring home fresh strawberries that only grow in spring. They do so, so that she is out of the house when a rich man will come visit. She ventures out to the mountain and find the 12 month brothers. The month brothers help her by quickly passing the seasons on the mountain, growing what she needs. Eventually, her stepsister and mother go up into the mountain and disappear. Later, the man comes and marries the little girl. I would read this to show that good will always win. ( )

This is a story about a young girl that is told to do all the chores around the house. This is considered to be a folktale because of the way that this story can be/ was passed down from genreation to generation. You really start to feel sorry for this girl because of what she has to do on a daily basis and can never do what she really wants to do. ( )

The plot of this book is engaging because you become attached to the main character, little sister, and her struggles. The story begins with telling of the little sister’s hardships at home with her stepmother and sisters and all the chores she has to do. Then they give her some theoretically impossible tasks, yet she overcomes them with help from the month brothers. The reader becomes interested in the little sister and follows the conflicts in the book in order to see what will become to her. The book has a nice resolution which brings closure to the story and answers all the questions a reader might have while reading. This story is a good example of a folk tale because this is a Slavic tale which has been passed down from generation to generation. This story also has clear good and bad characters which can be identified by their actions. The main character is a good person who overcomes great challenges in the story and the bad characters get lost in the snow and are never heard from again.
