Fiction. Literature. Thriller. Historical Fiction. HTML:For fans of fast-paced historical thrillers like Our Woman in Moscow and The Rose Code, Kelly Rimmer's dramatic new novel follows two female SOE operatives whose lives will be determined by a double agent in their midst.
/> Twenty-five years after the end of the war, Noah Ainsworth is still preoccupied with those perilous, exhilarating years as a British SOE operative in France. A head injury sustained on his final operation has caused frustrating gaps in his memoryâ??in particular about the agent who saved his life during that mission gone wrong, whose real name he never knew, nor whether she even survived the war.
Moved by her father's frustration, Noah's daughter Charlotte begins a search for answers that resurrects the stories of Chloe and Fleur, the code names for two otherwise ordinary women whose lives intersect in 1943 when they're called up by the SOE for deployment in France. Taking enormous risks to support the allied troops with very little information or resources, the women have no idea they're at the mercy of a double agent among them who's causing chaos within the French circuits, whose efforts will affect the outcome of their lives...and the war.
But as Charlotte's search for answers bears fruit, overlooked clues come to light about the identity of the double agentâ??with unsettling hints pointing close to homeâ??and more shocking events are unearthed from the dangerous, dramatic last days of the war that lead to Chloe and Fleur's eventual fates.

I was not expecting parts of that ending, some of it I had figured out before the reveal. Hard to talk about this book without giving anything away.

So I will just say, that I am looking forward to reading more of Tarryn Fisher's books in the future. ( )

I enjoy The Paris Agent by Kelly Rimmer for the history it introduces me to. It is my understanding that the female characters are based on real women like Cecily Lefort, Lilian Rolfe, Diana Rowden, and Violette Szabo. Some of the events like the destruction of the factory are based on historical events. I appreciate learning about the strength and courage of women who fought in the war.

A heartbreaking story of 2 women who worked as spies for the resistance in WWII, as well as a man that loved one of them.
After her mom died, Charlotte understands that her dad, Noah, wants to find Remy, the man who carried him to safety after he was hurt in the war, while working for the SOE. But when she starts trying to find information, she discovers that her dad was in love with Josie aka Chloe during the war. They worked together and fell in love during the mission. However, he had lost some of his memories, due to injuries from the war, plus his wife was extremely jealous of his relationship with Chloe, so this was a difficult journey. Reading the stories of these women and their service and their dedication was inspiring. The story is loosely based on real people. ( )

As much as I keep saying I am not going to read any more WWII books I end up reading more WWII books. It seems that it is the topic du jour these days. Perhaps if enough is written we truly will learn from that awful history and not repeat it….but sadly I do not think we ever learn from history.

This book is different in that instead of focusing on the War so much it dials down on individuals and that made for very compelling reading. Ms. Rimmer draws her characters very well and once you get to know them you are very invested in their lives.

Here the story exists in two timelines – the present of the book and War. After a head injury on his last mission, Noah Ainsworth has gaps in his memory from his time working for the SOE. He wants to thank an agent who helped him and his daughter seeks to find the woman but what she finds is far more than either one of them bargained for.

A truly fast paced and page turning book full of fascinating characters. I read this in two afternoons and was sorry I had to take the break in between. It’s not a story you will long forget. While much bad happened during that wretched war, some good did as well.

I received a free copy for my honest review ( )

The Paris Agent by Kelly Rimmer
Historical fiction. Two times frames between 1970 and the end of the Second World War.
In 1970, Charlotte tries to help her father research the man who saved his live at the end of the war. He remembers only a name. Charlotte’s investigation uncovers the stories of two brave women that that sacrificed everything for their country, as well as the fact that her father was actually a secret British agent.

Based on the research of two women, evidence of their work and lives, and sacrifices. Reading the author notes at the end of this fictional story, brought home the bravery of the thousands of men and women that lived through, fought and sacrificed for their families and country. This story is filled with the passion of suspense, danger and loyalty of the times. It saddens me that these stories are lost and I’m grateful to the author for bringing these to life.
It’s of course sad in the end simply because it’s historical and mostly lost to history.
Chloe and Fleur will live on in memory of the bravery.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher. ( )
